Dear Families,

Welcome Back! Happy 2020! It’s hard to believe we are in a new year and a new decade. We are ready for a great start to the second semester! All our scholars came back from Winter Break ready to get back to work. Teachers are continuing to administer mid-year assessments to check for scholar mastery of standards and help to drive instructional decisions in the classroom. Extra support and a variety of interventions are being provided for those students needing additional support.

Next Wednesday night, 1/1d we will be hosting our annual Ready, Set, Kindergarten Open House for our incoming kindergarten families for the 2020-2021 school year. This event will begin at 5:00 p.m. Please let any families know who a kindergartener may have ready to start school next year. At the end of the month is Pinellas County Schools Evening of Excellence. This is a special evening recognizing the education profession and the nominees for Teacher of the Year. We will be honoring and cheering on Mrs. Jessy Ford, our CPE Teacher of the Year.

Please know student and staff safety is our top priority and proper protocols and processes are in place to ensure safety always. I appreciate everyone abiding by our policies and helping to maintain a safe learning environment for all our students. Just a few reminders…

• There is NO student drop off/pick up in the bus circle or parking lots. Parents are asked to use the car circle for drop off and pick up each day.
• The St. Petersburg Police Department is enforcing the no parking areas in front of the school during the day and for evening events.
• All visitors MUST sign in at the front office when visiting campus. A visitor badge MUST be displayed while on campus.

A reminder that Pinellas County Schools has an electronic flyer communication and delivery tool called Peachjar. This “green” initiative saves our community partners and schools tons of paper and reduces copy costs by thousands of dollars. In addition, posting school flyers in this electronic backpack remove a significant administrative burden from teachers, office staff and volunteers.

This system is used exclusively for the distribution of school-approved flyers. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose. To view school-approved eflyers, simply click the Peachjar button on our website homepage. We also suggest you add school@peachjar.com to your email contacts. When you receive your first eflyers, be sure to click “always display images.”

Beyond the Classroom, Campbell Park’s free after school academic enrichment program is now accepting applications for our winter session. Students receive academic support while exploring a variety of enrichment clubs like dance, karate and STEM. The program runs Mon- Fri from 3:30-5:00. During the last week of January (27-31) we will celebrate Literacy Week!
Each day we celebrate with a different activity. Stay tuned for more information about our activities. Also, be sure to ask your scholars what they learned each day. Below are some tips to try at home!

Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! 10 Tips for Parents:

1. Visit your local public library and help your child get a library card of their very own.
2. Take books in the car to read, rather than watching a DVD.
3. Play rhyming games during a car trip or at home. Children will enjoy learning their own version of rhymes you learned as a child as well as how spelling effects rhyming.
4. Read the back of the cereal box at breakfast.
5. Set aside additional reading time or add extra bedtime storytime as a reward for good behavior.
6. Encourage your child to write a book about their day.
7. Help your child read the labels on different bottles and containers, including the shampoo and conditioner bottles at bath time.
8. While playing outside, encourage your child to create their name out of sticks, stones, and other materials.
9. Bake something – when following a recipe, children are not only practicing their reading skills, they are learning how to follow directions and work toward a goal.
10. Play a find-the-street-sign game while in the car. Encouraging your child to find words that start with various letters of the alphabet.
